Abstract
The program focuses on identifying, responding, and respond to emerging threats in a timely and effective manner. The program's goals include predicting and preventing the spread of emerging diseases, responding to outbreaks, and identifying and mitigating the impact of emerging threats. The program has a regional focus, with a particular emphasis on East Congo. In this region, the program is working to establish a Veterinary Public Health Residency Program at Makerere University's School of Veterinary Medicine. The program is a partnership between Makerere University and the University of Minnesota. The program aims to establish a residency program in veterinary public health, with a focus on training veterinarians, human health professionals, environmental health professionals, laboratory technologists, and food scientists. The program has received support from RESPOND, a program that provides funding and resources to support the establishment of the residency program. The program has also received support from the University of Minnesota. The University of Minnesota has provided expertise and resources to support the implementation of the program. The program has held a workshop to sensitize stakeholders about the development of the program. The workshop was held on August 8, 2011, at the Imperial Royale hotel in Kampala. The workshop included a discussion of a plan and recommendations for the implementation of the program. The program has also included expert panel discussions on topics related to veterinary public health. The discussions were held under the theme "Current Challenges and Opportunities on Veterinary Public Health." The program has made several recommendations for the implementation of the program, including adapting the existing University of Minnesota Public Health Residency model to Makerere, and accrediting the program by the National Council for Higher Education. The program has also outlined several steps to be taken after the workshop, including sensitizing key stakeholders, sending a staff member from the School of Veterinary Medicine to the University of Minnesota to observe their residency program, piloting the program at Makerere, assessing the program, and revising it to meet local expectations. The program aims to establish a residency program that will provide training and expertise in veterinary public health, and will help to mitigate the impact of emerging threats in the region.
