Abstract
The program operates in Nigeria with the goal of complementing the national healthcare system by aligning with health priorities, policies, and systems. HelloMama is locally led, planned for scale, and focuses on an age and stage-based mobile messaging that complements the efforts of frontline health workers. The program is implemented in Ebonyi, Kogi, and Cross-River States, Nigeria, with a geographic coverage of approximately 3.5 million women of reproductive age. The program's core partners include MCSP/Jhpiego, Pathfinder, Praekelt Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), MAMA Global, and the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH). As of Program Year 2 (PY2), the overall coordination of HelloMama shifted to MCSP via in-country implementing partner Jhpiego, with Pathfinder and Praekelt Foundation remaining as sub-grantees. HelloMama draws upon key lessons learned and best practices from other MAMA country programs, including MAMA's unique ability to address the local context with solutions that fit both the need of the user and the resources available. The program will leverage its extensive experience collecting and analyzing formative research and translating these findings into programmatic processes to tackle challenges related to various implementation activities. The program's implementation progress is monitored and evaluated through a Performance Monitoring Plan (PMP) and Performance Reporting System (PRS). The program's stakeholders include the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and other key partners. The program's budget for the reporting period (July 1, 2016 to September 30, 2016) was $393,792, with a total estimated expenditure to date of $1,631,587. The program's activity implementation progress is reported in the following areas: administration/management, M&E, pilot activities, and implementation challenges. The program's stakeholders have agreed to their responsibilities, including MCSP's coordination role in leading HelloMama across all states for implementation, Pathfinder's content development and localization, and Praekelt Foundation's implementation of mobile health solutions. The program's lessons learned and best practices are documented and shared with stakeholders to inform future program implementation. The program's planned activities for the next quarter include the implementation of pilot activities in Ebonyi State and the roll-out of the program in Kogi State, where the MCSP Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) project is currently being implemented.
