Abstract
The survey, held from February 9th to 12th, 2021, aimed to monitor the beneficiaries and assess whether they received cash assistance from the SFMP. The survey specifically sought to determine the number of beneficiaries who received cash assistance and those who did not, the uses and benefits of the cash assistance, and any challenges associated with retrieving the cash. The survey was conducted in five districts: Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), Cape Coast Metropolis (CCMA), Abura-Asebu Kwamankse (AAK), Mfantse, and Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam (AEE). A total of 52 beneficiaries were sampled, representing 10% of the 514 poor and vulnerable household beneficiaries under the economic safety net scheme. The survey found that the majority of beneficiaries received cash assistance, with 45 out of 52 beneficiaries reporting receipt of the cash. The average amount received by beneficiaries was not specified. The survey also found that beneficiaries used the cash assistance for various purposes, including food, healthcare, and education expenses. The survey revealed that the cash assistance had a positive impact on the beneficiaries, with 90% of respondents reporting an improvement in their living conditions. However, some beneficiaries faced challenges in retrieving the cash, including difficulties in accessing the cash transfer system and delays in receiving the cash. The CEWEFIA Project Team recommends that the SFMP improve the cash transfer system to make it more accessible and efficient for beneficiaries. The team also suggests that the SFMP provide additional support to beneficiaries who face challenges in retrieving the cash. The survey was conducted as part of the CEWEFIA Project's efforts to monitor the impact of the economic safety net scheme on vulnerable households. The project aims to improve the livelihoods of poor and vulnerable households in the CEWEFIA project communities. The CEWEFIA Project Team acknowledges the technical and financial support provided by the USAID/SFMP to make this project possible. The team also appreciates the efforts of the team that conducted the survey.
