Abstract
The college has successfully sourced equipment through vendors, including industrial sewing machines, button holler machines, and a 15kVA generator. These equipment are essential for the college's textile and entrepreneurial training programs. The college has also made progress in preparing draft curricula for the National Technician Award Levels 4, 5, and 6. These curricula will be submitted to the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) for accreditation. However, the stakeholders' workshop scheduled for the second week of April 2012 has been rescheduled due to low attendance anticipated during the Easter holidays. KCoST has received visits from stakeholders, including the Mbeya Regional Manager for the Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) and the Mbeya Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) Regional Director. These visits aimed to familiarize the stakeholders with the college's activities and explore opportunities for complementary services. The college has also made progress in advertising its course, primarily through circulars and Kyela FM Radio. National-level advertisement will be conducted once the curricula have been accredited by NACTE, which is expected to start in July 2012. Additionally, the college's website is currently in the final stages of preparation, which will provide a wider spectrum of readership for the course. Equipment procurement has been completed, with the purchase of 8 sewing machines, 2 over-lock machines, 2 knitting machines, 2 buttons attach machines, and 2 button holler machines. However, these equipment have not yet been delivered. Procurement of learning machinery, teaching materials, and a 15kVA generator has also been completed, but the generator's transportation process is pending approval from the Kyela District Council (KDC) management. The college has admitted 54 students for the 2012 intake, with 25 males and 29 females. Studies are now in progress, and teaching of the 2012 batch started in January 2012 and will last for nine months. Guest lecturers from the University of Dar es Salaam have visited the college to deliver different course subjects, including textile processing routes, garment manufacture, fashion design, quality assurance, and small business management. The project delivery is on schedule, with the college making progress in implementing its grant activities. However, some tasks, such as the installation of equipment and the stakeholders' workshop, are pending completion due to various reasons.
