Abstract
The abattoir is designed to improve the efficiency and safety of meat production, while also generating revenue through the sale of meat and by-products. The project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Leveraging Economic Opportunities (LEO) project. The abattoir will be equipped with modern facilities and equipment, including a slaughterhouse, refrigeration units, and packaging facilities. The project will also provide training and technical assistance to local farmers and butchers to improve their skills and knowledge in meat production and handling. The economic viability of the project has been assessed using a financial model, which takes into account the total investment costs and operating costs. The model estimates a return on investment (ROI) of 5.5% based on a redevance d'utilisation of 110,000 GNF per animal. However, if the redevance d'utilisation is increased to 150,000 GNF, the ROI would be significantly higher at 16.4%. The project will also generate revenue through the sale of meat and by-products, including hides, bones, and offal. The revenue will be used to cover the operating costs of the abattoir, including labor, equipment maintenance, and utilities. The Abattoir de Kagbelen is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, creating jobs and generating income for local farmers and butchers. The project will also improve the quality and safety of meat production, reducing the risk of foodborne illnesses and improving consumer confidence. The project will be implemented in phases, with the first phase focusing on the construction of the abattoir and the installation of equipment. The second phase will focus on the training and technical assistance to local farmers and butchers, as well as the marketing and sales of meat and by-products. The project will be monitored and evaluated regularly to ensure that it is meeting its objectives and to identify areas for improvement. The evaluation will include regular site visits, interviews with stakeholders, and analysis of financial and operational data. The Abattoir de Kagbelen is a critical component of the Guinean government's agricultural development strategy, and it is expected to have a significant impact on the country's economy and food security. The project will improve the efficiency and safety of meat production, generate revenue, and create jobs, while also improving the quality and safety of meat for consumers.
