Abstract
The reserve is comprised of three private properties: El Cachicamo, El Gavilán, and Santana, which were voluntarily registered as a Reserva Natural de la Sociedad Civil (RNSC) in 2014. The RNSC Santana is part of the Sistema Nacional de Áreas Protegidas (SINAP) of Parques Nacionales Naturales de Colombia, which aims to conserve and manage natural resources and biodiversity. The reserve is situated in the municipality of La Primavera, Vichada Department, and covers an area of 1,283 hectares and 8,075 square meters. The reserve is bounded by the El Vita River and other natural features, and its terrain is characterized by a mix of flat and sloping areas. The reserve is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including various species of plants, birds, and mammals. The reserve's ecosystem is considered to be of high conservation value, and its protection is essential for maintaining the region's biodiversity. The RNSC Santana is managed by the Fundación Palmarito Casanare, which is responsible for implementing the reserve's management plan. The plan is based on three main approaches: conservation, restoration, and sustainable use. The conservation approach is the primary strategy for managing the reserve, with the goal of maintaining the reserve's ecosystem structure and function over time. The reserve's management plan is guided by the "Guía para la elaboración de planes de manejo de reservas Naturales de la Sociedad Civil," which was developed in 2009 by a group of organizations, including Parques Nacionales Naturales de Colombia, Asociación Red Colombiana de Reservas Naturales de la Sociedad Civil (RESNATUR), Corporación Autónoma Regional del Valle del Cauca (CVC), and Asociación Red de Reservas Naturales de la Sociedad Civil del Macizo Colombiano (SERANKWA). The reserve's management plan includes several key components, including a zoning system that identifies areas for conservation, restoration, and sustainable use. The plan also includes measures for monitoring and evaluating the reserve's ecosystem health and biodiversity. The reserve's management plan is designed to be implemented over a period of several years, with regular reviews and updates to ensure that the plan remains effective and relevant. The plan is also intended to be flexible and adaptable, allowing for adjustments to be made in response to changing environmental and social conditions. Overall, the Reserva Natural de la Sociedad Civil Santana is an important protected area in Colombia, and its management plan is designed to conserve and protect its natural resources and biodiversity for future generations.
