Abstract
The initiative aimed to improve access to water and sanitation in the rural community of Niaming. The community of Niaming is located in a region with a tropical climate and fertile soils. The population is predominantly rural, with a high percentage of farmers and herders. The community has limited access to basic infrastructure, including education, healthcare, and electricity. The water supply in Niaming is characterized by a lack of access to safe drinking water, with only 22% of households having access to improved water sources. The majority of the population relies on unprotected wells and rivers for their water needs. The sanitation situation is equally dire, with only 28% of households having access to improved sanitation facilities. The Plan Local d'Hydraulique et d'Assainissement (PLHA) was developed to address the water and sanitation needs of the community. The plan aims to increase access to safe drinking water and improve sanitation facilities in the community. The plan includes the development of new water sources, including boreholes and wells, as well as the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure. The plan also includes measures to improve sanitation, including the construction of latrines and the promotion of good hygiene practices. The plan aims to increase access to sanitation facilities to 80% of households by 2015. The plan also includes measures to promote community participation and ownership of the water and sanitation infrastructure. The plan is divided into several components, including the development of water and sanitation infrastructure, the promotion of good hygiene practices, and the provision of technical assistance and training to community members. The plan also includes a budget and a plan for financing the implementation of the plan. The plan is expected to have several benefits, including improved access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities, reduced water-borne diseases, and improved health and well-being of community members. The plan is also expected to promote community participation and ownership of the water and sanitation infrastructure, and to contribute to the overall development of the community. The plan includes several key indicators, including the percentage of households with access to improved water sources, the percentage of households with access to improved sanitation facilities, and the percentage of community members who have received training in good hygiene practices. The plan also includes a plan for monitoring and evaluating the progress of the plan. The plan is expected to be implemented over a period of three years, with the first year focused on planning and preparation, the second year focused on implementation, and the third year focused on evaluation and monitoring. The plan is expected to be implemented by a team of community members, with technical assistance and support provided by external partners. The plan includes several key stakeholders, including the community members, the local government, and external partners. The plan also includes a plan for community participation and ownership of the water and sanitation infrastructure, and a plan for promoting good hygiene practices.
