Abstract
efforts to bolster democracy and defend human rights globally. This initiative seeks to catalyze, diversify, and sustain global partnerships and expand programming to defend democracies from complex and emerging challenges. PIDR is a call to action to democratic actors worldwide to deepen collective networks and partnerships to counter democratic backsliding and advance democratic development. The vision of PIDR is to foster a renewed and vibrant global commitment to democracy that delivers real results to individuals, strengthened by local democratic actors capable of addressing global challenges to democratic institutions and processes. To achieve this vision, PIDR is built on four key principles. First, convening involves catalyzing, diversifying, and sustaining global partnerships focused on democratic resilience. This principle recognizes the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting democratic development. Second, augmenting resources is essential to meet the increasing global challenges to democracy. This principle acknowledges that addressing democratic threats requires significant investment in resources, expertise, and capacity-building initiatives. Third, testing new approaches is critical to addressing new and emerging democratic threats. This principle emphasizes the need for innovation and experimentation in democratic development, allowing for the identification of effective solutions to complex challenges. Fourth, reinforcing the importance of local actors leading efforts to fortify democracy is a core principle of PIDR. This principle recognizes the critical role that local actors play in promoting democratic development and emphasizes the need for their leadership and ownership in democratic initiatives. PIDR has five pillars to address global challenges in the 21st century. These pillars provide a framework for the initiative's programming and partnerships, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated approach to promoting democratic development. By convening global partnerships, augmenting resources, testing new approaches, and reinforcing local actors, PIDR aims to create a renewed and vibrant global commitment to democracy that delivers real results to individuals.
