Abstract
The organization, a faith-based entity, provides care and support for HIV pediatric cases and their families in Belize. Founded by Fr. Joseph and his brother, Wayne Fowler, in 1999, Hand in Hand Ministry established its first international office in Belize in 2002, with several programs and initiatives focused on its mission to build strong communities by engaging individuals and families in transformational life experiences. One of the key initiatives includes an outreach program for children affected and infected by HIV/AIDS, as well as a treatment center for children marginalized by poverty and disease, complete with a daycare and pre-school, and a support group for teenagers and young adults living with HIV and AIDS. As pioneers in the provision of comprehensive treatment, care, and support to children infected and affected by HIV and AIDS within the national response, Hand in Hand Ministries chose to be a part of the USAID/PASCA Private Sector initiative to encourage others to do the same. The policy is instituted within the organization to encourage other organizations to adopt similar policies. Having an established, accepted, and institutionalized document ensures consistency and continuity in the quality of service provided to those most in need. Hand in Hand Ministries sees its policy as a viable, living document that can serve as an example to other agencies and companies seeking to support and safeguard their employees and clients. The organization's commitment to implementing an HIV Policy has set a precedent for other private sector entities in Belize, with 10 companies currently engaged in the project and Hand in Hand Ministries serving as a mentor and role model. The USAID/PASCA LMG will continue to work with other agencies and enterprises to ensure the completion and implementation of their policies. Hand in Hand Ministries' leadership in this initiative has demonstrated its commitment to protecting and supporting its employees and clients, and its policy serves as a model for other organizations to follow. By promoting a culture of care and support, Hand in Hand Ministries is contributing to a more comprehensive response to HIV in Belize. The organization's experience and expertise in providing care and support to children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS have positioned it as a leader in the national response. Hand in Hand Ministries' commitment to implementing an HIV Policy has not only benefited its employees and clients but also contributed to the development of a more robust and effective response to HIV in Belize. The organization's work serves as a testament to the importance of private sector involvement in addressing public health challenges.
