Abstract
The program is implemented by the Monitoring & Evaluation Services Malakand, a group of engineering services based in Peshawar. The program's primary focus is on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of schools, health facilities, water and sanitation schemes, and roads. As of October 2012, the status of the USAID-funded sub-projects under KP-RP is as follows: in Swat District, a total of 79 schools have been tendered, with work orders issued for 78 schools. Work is underway on 60 schools, while 18 schools have been completed. In Dir Lower District, a total of 20 schools have been tendered, with work orders issued for 19 schools. Work is underway on 13 schools, while 6 schools have been completed. In Dir Upper District, a total of 5 schools have been tendered, with work orders issued for 2 schools. Dismantling of one school has been completed, but the contractor is unwilling to continue further. In Buner District, a total of 13 schools have been tendered, with work orders issued for 13 schools. Work is underway on 9 schools, while 3 schools have been completed. The program also focuses on water and sanitation schemes, with 13 drinking water supply schemes proposed for implementation in Buner District. Design and PC-1 have been prepared for 10 schemes, while one scheme is under process. In Swat District, 11 drinking water supply schemes have been proposed for implementation, with design and PC-1 prepared for 10 schemes. Health facilities are also a key component of the program, with a target of 5 health facilities to be rebuilt or rehabilitated. Work on 3 Basic Health Units (BHUs) in Swat continued during the month, while work on BHU Topi at District Buner has been halted by the contractor for unknown reasons. The program also includes road and bridge construction, with work underway on the protection works of the existing road and cutting/earthwork for the new alignment of Kot-Barang road. Restoration of Amandara Headworks, Upper Swat Canal System & Munda Head Works is also underway, with 47% of the project scope completed. In addition to USAID-funded sub-projects, the program also includes other donors/GOP-funded sub-projects, including NGOs such as UN Habitat, Qatar Charity, and IDEA. These projects are being monitored and evaluated by the Monitoring & Evaluation Services Malakand.
