Abstract
The project began in 2015 with the goal of improving rice quality and increasing economic growth in participating communities. Initial assessments identified inconsistent quality control measures and inadequate infrastructure as primary challenges. Implementation of the project involved the establishment of quality control centers in 12 target communities. These centers provided training and certification for local farmers, processors, and traders on rice quality standards and best practices. The project also invested in upgrading existing infrastructure, including storage facilities and transportation networks, to ensure efficient and safe handling of rice. Key findings from the project's midterm evaluation revealed significant improvements in rice quality, with a 25% reduction in defective rice products. Participating farmers reported increased income due to improved market access and higher prices for high-quality rice. Women-headed households, representing 30% of participants, showed higher adoption rates for quality control practices and reported greater economic benefits. The project's geographic focus spanned three provinces, with a total of 15,000 farmers and traders benefiting from the quality control initiative. Recommendations from the midterm evaluation emphasized the need for continued investment in infrastructure development and capacity building for local quality control personnel. The project's success has served as a model for future initiatives aimed at improving agricultural productivity and economic growth in the region.
