Abstract
The project is implemented by DAI Global, LLC, under contract AID-497-TO-16-00003, and is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In Surabaya, the project supports PDAM Surya Sembada, the city-owned water utility, to engage the private sector in building master meter systems in informal settlements. The master meter system is designed to provide safe and reliable water access to residents who previously relied on unsafe water sources or paid exorbitant prices for water. As of March 2019, 1,600 people have benefited from this program, with a goal of serving 6,000 people through 30 master meter systems with 1,200 house connections. The project has established multi-stakeholder partnerships with four private firms, including CCFI, PT Laneige, PTPN XI, and Yayasan Pundi Amal SCTV, to support the master meter program. These partnerships are expected to improve water access and reduce costs for residents in informal settlements. The project also aims to promote sustainable water management practices and improve the overall WASH environment in urban areas of Indonesia. In addition to the master meter program, the project has made significant progress in improving household WASH services, strengthening city and district WASH institutional performance, and advancing national WASH advocacy, coordination, and communication. The project has also made progress in regional areas, including North Sumatra, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Tangerang, Central Java, East Java, and South Sulawesi and Eastern Indonesia. The project's progress is monitored and evaluated through regular reporting and assessments. The project's management and coordination are overseen by the USAID IUWASH PLUS Chief of Party, who is responsible for ensuring that the project meets its objectives and is implemented in accordance with USAID's requirements. The project's achievements are reflected in the significant progress made in improving WASH services, strengthening institutional capacity, and promoting sustainable water management practices. The project's success is a testament to the importance of collaboration and partnership in achieving development goals and improving the lives of people in urban areas of Indonesia.
