Abstract
The project involves the development of the Waran Canal and the Gomal Zam Dam, which will provide irrigation facilities to farmers in the area. The project's scope of services includes monitoring and milestone verification, as well as providing technical assistance to the project implementation unit (PIU). The quarterly progress report for the period January 1 to March 31, 2019, highlights the activities carried out during this quarter. Despite no field visit being conducted to the Waran Canal and Gomal Zam Dam Command Area Development Project, several activities were undertaken to ensure the project's progress. Documentation for the verification of milestone/payment numbers 23 and 24 of Package-GII was completed, and milestones clearance certificates were issued after rectification of site visit observations. The revised schedule for milestone payment #15 and 25 was agreed upon and finalized with USAID. Additionally, rectification efforts were made by the field teams of the design and supervision consultant and social mobilization consultant on shared observations of Halcrow Pakistan (Pvt) Limited. The project's progress is also reflected in the establishment of 75 newly formed water users associations (WUAs) and the completion of 7 watercourses (FCRs). Clearance certificates for the advance liquidation/physical work done completion verification of 38 watercourses, 7 completed watercourses (FCRs), and 75 newly formed WUAs were issued after successful rectification of discrepancies. The project's implementation is being carried out in collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), the Management Consultant (MC), and the Social Mobilization Consultant. The project's progress is being monitored and reported on a quarterly basis to ensure that the project is on track to meet its objectives. The project's geographic focus is on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, where the Waran Canal and Gomal Zam Dam are located. The project's timeframes are outlined in the project's implementation plan, which includes specific milestones and deadlines for the completion of various activities. The project's recommendations for the next quarter include continued monitoring and verification of project activities, as well as provision of technical assistance to the PIU. The project's stakeholders will continue to work together to ensure the successful implementation of the project and the achievement of its objectives. The project's implementation is being carried out in accordance with the Environmental Mitigation and Management Plan (EMMP), which outlines the measures to be taken to minimize the project's environmental impact. The project's health and safety protocols are also being implemented to ensure the safety of project personnel and the local community. The project's progress is being reported on a quarterly basis to USAID, which is providing funding for the project. The project's stakeholders will continue to work together to ensure the successful implementation of the project and the achievement of its objectives.
