Abstract
720FDA18CA00042, aimed to provide comprehensive support to host communities and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Yemen. The project, implemented by FHI 360, focused on health, nutrition, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) activities in three sites along the Western Coast of Yemen: Al Mokha MCH, Al Ghaded Health Center in Dhubab, and Al Khawkhah MCH. During the reporting period, October 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019, FHI 360 recorded progress on several main activities. The baseline report was finalized, and benchmarks were established to track progress. An Excel-based indicator tracking framework was created to monitor progress. FHI 360 also signed a subaward agreement with the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MOPHP) and the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MOPIC) on December 23, 2018. FHI 360 completed the rollout of the beneficiary complaint and feedback mechanism at all project sites and introduced the minimum service package (MSP) at all supported facilities. The MSP includes reproductive health, community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), outpatient department (OPD), emergency OPD, and expanded program of immunization (EPI). FHI 360 also trained health facility staff in basic emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC), CMAM, and infant and young child feeding (IYCF). The rehabilitation works at Al Ghaded Health Center were completed in January, and the facility started operating in March. FHI 360 provided primary healthcare services, including reproductive health, EPI, and emergency OPD, in Al Mokha MCH and Al Khawkhah MCH. The facility will soon reach this capacity at Al Ghaded Health Center. FHI 360 also conducted needs assessments in new locations that currently lack health service provision and considered as potential areas for expansion of activities. FHI 360 incentivized MoPHP Health and Nutrition staff in Al Khawkhah and Al Mokha MCHs and Al Ghaded Health Center to ensure that staff are motivated and provide continuous health services. The number of incentivized staff peaked at 73, with 38 in Al Mokha, 25 in Al Khawkhah, and 9 in Al Ghaded. FHI 360 also conducted a BEmONC training course at Al-Sadaqa Teaching Hospital in Aden, which targeted 15 midwives from Mokha MCH, Khawkhah MCH, and Al-Ghaded Health Facility. The project's health sector achieved significant progress, with a total of 25,409 beneficiaries accessing quality health services. The number of people benefiting from FHI 360 services increased compared to the last semi-annual report, attributed to the completion of rehabilitation of Al Ghaded Health Center and strengthening of quality health services in Al Mokha and Al Khawkhah health facilities. FHI 360's Monitoring & Evaluation team completed the first round of patient satisfaction surveys at Al Mokha MCH and Al Khawkhah MCH. The project's nutrition sector achieved a cumulative total of 1,699 consultations, with 272 IDPs benefiting from the services. FHI 360 also conducted CMAM and IYCF trainings to health workers from the targeted health facilities, which showed significant knowledge gain among the participants. The project's WASH sector achieved a cumulative total of 354 consultations, with 1752 IDPs benefiting from the services. Overall, the project made significant progress in providing comprehensive support to host communities and IDPs in Yemen. FHI 360 continued to provide health, nutrition, and WASH services in three sites along the Western Coast of Yemen, and the project's health sector achieved significant progress in providing quality health services to a large number of beneficiaries.
