Abstract
The program began in 2017 and is set to conclude in June 2023. The program's implementing partner is Deloitte Consulting LLP, with a total contract value of $69,955,372. The SAEP program focuses on 10 countries in the Southern African region, including Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zambia. The program's goals include increasing energy access, promoting renewable energy, and improving energy sector governance. As of December 31, 2022, the program has achieved significant progress in various areas. In terms of new grid connections or off-grid connections, the program has achieved 88.23% of its target, with 2,646,932 connections made. The program has also achieved 95.71% of its target for the number of MW from transactions that achieved financial close, with 2,871.38 MW achieved. In terms of investment mobilization, the program has achieved 83.33% of its target, with $6,778.8 million mobilized. The program has also made significant progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with 94.59% of its target achieved. The program has also made progress in improving energy sector governance, with 122.58% of its target achieved in terms of laws, policies, regulations, or standards formally proposed, adopted, or implemented.
