Abstract
The program aims to improve maternal health outcomes by providing calcium supplements to pregnant women. The tool is designed for use by auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs) or other healthcare professionals who conduct antenatal care (ANC) services. The tool consists of several sections, including general information, maternal health services, logistics, availability of BCC materials and other supplies/equipment, and knowledge on calcium counseling. The general information section captures details about the health facility, including its location, type, and the date of the visit. The maternal health services section assesses the availability and quality of ANC services provided at the health facility. It includes questions about the provision of services such as blood pressure examination, urine testing for protein, abdominal examination, and counseling on danger signs of pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum. The section also inquires about the availability of delivery and postpartum services at the health facility. The logistics section evaluates the management of the storeroom and the stock balance of essential commodities, including iron, calcium, and magnesium sulfate. The section also assesses the availability of BCC materials and other supplies/equipment, such as posters, flyers, and equipment for blood pressure measurement and urine testing. The knowledge on calcium counseling section assesses the knowledge of healthcare providers about calcium supplementation during pregnancy. It includes questions about the benefits of calcium supplementation, the timing of calcium supplementation, and the dosage of calcium tablets. The tool also includes a section for reviewing data on cases of pre-eclampsia/eclampsia (PE/E) diagnosed in the past month. It captures information about the diagnosis, treatment, and outcome of the cases, including the outcome of the mother and the fetus. The Calcium Pilot Dailekh tool is designed to assess the readiness of health facilities to implement the Calcium Pilot program and to identify areas for improvement. It provides a framework for healthcare providers to assess their knowledge and practices related to calcium supplementation during pregnancy and to improve the quality of ANC services provided at the health facility.
