Targeting Natural Resource Corruption involves integrating anti-corruption into law enforcement approaches to reduce the impact of corruption on conservation.

Abstract
Law enforcement agencies monitor and enforce laws that protect landscapes, seascapes, and the species that inhabit them. Corruption in law enforcement or the criminal justice system enables violators to circumvent these laws and regulations, making enforcement-based approaches less reliable for limiting and preventing environmental harms. The TNRC Model Results Chains provide practical knowledge for program designers and implementers to reduce corruption's impact on conservation. This model results chain focuses on the illegal wildlife trade, which includes any unlawful activity related to profiting from fish, forests, and wild fauna. However, most of the information is relevant to broader law enforcement against any crimes affecting the environment. The model results chain illustrates how conservation and natural resource management practitioners can incorporate anti-corruption elements into a law enforcement activity. The model results chain was adapted from the Conservation Actions & Measures Library, with new information including intermediate result boxes with descriptive background and links to anti-corruption resources. Strategy hexagons with red text link to other model results chains adapted with anti-corruption content. For full functionality, access the results chain in Miradi Share. This publication is made possible by the generous support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The TNRC Model Results Chains share knowledge on how to incorporate anti-corruption elements into law enforcement activities. This includes understanding the impact of corruption on conservation and the importance of addressing corruption in law enforcement approaches. The model results chain provides a starting point for adapting anti-corruption elements into specific conservation activities, taking into account safeguard and feasibility considerations for each context. Implementation of the TNRC Model Results Chains requires consideration of the specific context and objectives of an activity. A fully designed conservation activity might need to include other approaches beyond law enforcement to achieve the desired results. The model results chain is a tool for program designers and implementers to reduce corruption's impact on conservation, and it can be adapted to various contexts and objectives.
