Abstract
The manual is intended for providers with prior experience in Family Planning services, who are motivated and able to participate fully in the training. At the end of the training, participants will be able to state the importance of Sayana Press in preventing maternal mortality, counsel pregnant women on Sayana Press Self- Injection Technique, demonstrate hand washing, and demonstrate proper procedure of Sayana Press application. The training curriculum covers topics such as what is DMPA, what is Uniject, different techniques of administration of DMPA/Uniject/Sayana Press, safe storage of Sayana Press and sharps, counseling of clients, and screening of clients. The training methodology is participatory, using discussion, demonstration, hands-on practice, question-and-answer, observation, and role-play. The training material includes printed copies of the manual, Sayana Press job aids, and Sayana Press injections. Evaluation of participants will be conducted through skills assessment, question-and-answer sessions, and discussions. To qualify, each training participant must demonstrate 5 DMPA injections, including intramuscular or subcutaneous injections, with competency at the clinical site during the training period. Additionally, each participant must counsel and screen at least 10 clients for DMPA. The training agenda is structured over six days, covering topics such as the basics of Family Planning services, Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancy (HTSP), and the introduction of Sayana Press. Clinical activities are also scheduled to focus on demonstrating the provision of Sayana Press, counseling, client assessment, and safe sharp handling. The manual includes a comprehensive list of abbreviations, which includes terms such as Antiretroviral (ARV), Body Mass Index (BMI), Depot Medroxyprogesterone Acetate (DMPA), Family Planning (FP), and World Health Organization (WHO). The manual also includes annexures, which provide additional job aids and checklists for training participants.
