Abstract
The activity is implemented by Tetra Tech and focuses on three main components: mass formalization of land titles, strengthening local capacity to maintain formalized land transactions, and strengthening land governance and economic development through public-private partnerships. Component 1, mass formalization of land titles, involves advancing massive land titling in rural areas along with continued restitution support. This component aims to formalize land ownership and provide restitution to affected communities. As of the reporting period, the activity has made significant progress in this area, with over 10,000 land titles issued to rural communities. Component 2 focuses on strengthening local capacity to maintain formalized land transactions. This component involves training local officials and communities on land governance and management practices. The activity has established a network of local trainers who provide training and technical assistance to communities on land management and governance. Component 3, strengthening land governance and economic development through public-private partnerships, involves partnering with private sector companies to promote economic development and job creation in rural areas. The activity has established partnerships with several private sector companies, including coffee and cacao producers, to promote sustainable agriculture practices and improve livelihoods for rural communities. Regional activities are also a key component of the Land for Prosperity Activity. The activity has established regional offices in several departments in Colombia, including Antioquia, Caldas, and Quindío. These offices provide technical assistance and support to local communities and governments on land governance and management practices. The activity has also made significant progress in implementing its guiding principles, which include promoting gender equality and social inclusion, protecting the environment, and promoting economic development and job creation. The activity has established a gender strategy and a collaborating, learning, and adapting plan to ensure that its activities are inclusive and responsive to the needs of local communities. In terms of performance indicators, the activity has made significant progress in several areas, including the number of land titles issued, the number of communities trained on land governance and management practices, and the number of private sector partnerships established. The activity has also made significant progress in implementing its monitoring and evaluation plan, which includes tracking progress against its performance indicators and conducting regular assessments of its activities. The Land for Prosperity Activity has also made significant progress in addressing the impact of COVID-19 on its activities. The activity has established a COVID-19 response plan, which includes measures to protect staff and communities from the virus and to ensure continuity of its activities. Overall, the Land for Prosperity Activity has made significant progress in its first year, with a strong focus on promoting land governance and economic development in rural areas. The activity has established a strong foundation for its work and is well-positioned to achieve its objectives in the coming years. The activity has also made significant progress in implementing its environmental approvals, including the Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) and the Environmental Management Plan (EMP). The activity has established a robust environmental management system, which includes measures to protect the environment and to ensure that its activities are sustainable. In terms of success stories, the activity has several examples of communities that have benefited from its activities. For example, the activity has worked with a community in Antioquia to establish a coffee cooperative, which has improved livelihoods for over 100 families. The activity has also worked with a community in Caldas to establish a cacao cooperative, which has improved livelihoods for over 50 families.
