Abstract
The project is implemented by Pathfinder International and is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Department of International Development (DFID). The project's main goal is to increase access to essential health services, particularly for the poor and vulnerable populations. In August 2014, the project conducted a series of activities to achieve its objectives. The project held a quarterly review meeting with NGO project directors and contact persons to discuss progress and achievements under the project. The meeting served as a platform for showcasing each NGO's progress and innovations, as well as identifying areas for improvement. The project also conducted training sessions for SH clinic paramedics on safe delivery techniques. The training sessions were part of a larger effort to implement the project's new maternal health goals, including the improvement and expansion of safe birth services. Additionally, the project conducted a workshop on pharmacy and clinic lab improvements to enhance program income. The project also partnered with Save the Children's Saving Newborn Lives program to enhance the skills of NHSDP's service providers and auxiliary workers in newborn care. The partnership aimed to provide high-quality, evidence-based newborn interventions to an increasing number of newborns as an integral part of the ESP services. The project also participated in the 5th meeting of the International Conference on Urban Health, which was held on August 19, 2014. The conference aimed to discuss urban health issues and identify areas for improvement. In terms of monitoring and evaluation, the project is in the process of finalizing DFID's log frame indicators and setting relevant targets. The project has also collected data from all 26 NGOs and incorporated it into the report. The project's key indicators for August 2014 include: * Overall Couple Years Protection (CYP) achieved: 128,709 * Total service contact: 3,119,171 * Number of poor service contacts: 1,141,498 * Percentage of service contacts who qualify as poor: 36.5% * Total deliveries: 2,387 * Home deliveries: 374 * Facility deliveries: 2,013 * ANC visits: 111,425 * Essential Newborn Care (ENC) provided: 9,371 The project's observations for August 2014 include: * Contraceptive users increased in August 2014 compared to July 2014. * Total service contacts decreased slightly in August 2014 compared to July 2014. * The number of home deliveries and facility deliveries increased in August 2014 compared to July 2014. * The number of ANC visits increased in August 2014 compared to July 2014. The project's indicators and observations indicate that the project is making progress in achieving its objectives, particularly in terms of increasing access to essential health services for the poor and vulnerable populations. However, there are still areas for improvement, particularly in terms of increasing the number of service contacts and deliveries in rural areas.
