Abstract
The program is implemented by DAI and focuses on four main components: increasing productivity and profitability of the rice, cassava, horticulture, and goat value chains; stimulating private sector growth and investment; building local technical and managerial human resource capability; and cross-cutting activities. The program's goal is to increase agricultural productivity and profitability, particularly among smallholder farmers, and to stimulate private sector growth and investment in the agricultural sector. To achieve this goal, the program is implementing a range of activities, including farmer training programs, infrastructure development, and market linkage facilitation. One of the key activities of the program is the promotion of goat shelters, which is aimed at improving the productivity and profitability of the goat value chain. The program is also implementing a data collection system to track the performance of the goat value chain and to identify areas for improvement. In addition to the goat value chain, the program is also focusing on the rice, cassava, and horticulture value chains. The program is implementing a range of activities to improve the productivity and profitability of these value chains, including farmer training programs, infrastructure development, and market linkage facilitation. The program is also working to stimulate private sector growth and investment in the agricultural sector. This is being achieved through a range of activities, including the development of a business development service, which provides training and support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the agricultural sector. The program is also building local technical and managerial human resource capability through the development of vocational centers into centers of excellence in vocational agriculture education. This is aimed at improving the skills and knowledge of agricultural extension agents and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector. The program's cross-cutting activities include communications and knowledge management, environmental compliance, monitoring and evaluation, and market development fund management. The program is also implementing a range of activities to improve the environmental sustainability of the agricultural sector, including the development of an environmental mitigation and monitoring plan. The program's progress is being monitored and evaluated through a range of indicators, including the number of farmers trained, the amount of agricultural inputs distributed, and the value of agricultural sales. The program is also tracking the impact of the program on the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and the broader agricultural sector. Overall, the Food and Enterprise Development Program for Liberia is a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving agricultural productivity and profitability in the country. The program is being implemented through a range of activities, including farmer training programs, infrastructure development, and market linkage facilitation, and is expected to have a significant impact on the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and the broader agricultural sector.
