Abstract
The project will be implemented in conjunction with the Government of Peru"s General Administration for Forestry and Fauna (DGFF) and its national Office for Food Assistance (ONAA). Objectives of the 3-year grant are to: (1) produce 15.6 million seedlings; (2) plant trees on and maintain 11,550 ha of agricultural land; (3) install 98 permanent and community nurseries; (4) provide soil conservation training and hold demonstrations for some 32,000 farmers in participating communities; (5) develop and implement nutrition education activities related to the food aid component and the priority health and nutrition needs of participating families, especially malnourished children and pregnant and lactating mothers; (6) provide 5,607 MT"s of Title II food commodities to 164,000 beneficiaries; and (7) examine the feasibility and replicability of the project in other rural areas of Peru and make recommendations accordingly.
