Abstract
The activity, known locally as Asegurando la Educación, aims to address school-based violence and contribute to violence prevention in target communities. The project is implemented by DAI Global, LLC, with support from subcontractor Partners of the Americas. The activity works from a central project office in Tegucigalpa and two field offices in San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba. The project focuses on four objectives: improving schools' ability to reduce school-based violence, strengthening local networks that increase school safety, increasing the capacity of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and social protection actors to prevent and respond to SBV, and lowering risk factors and enhancing protective factors for students who qualify for secondary prevention services. Asegurando began the quarter by continuing planned activities designed to keep young people engaged in school, learning, and progressing toward graduation and a future in Honduras. The project team worked with the MOE to open school enrollment earlier than planned, which likely enabled thousands of families and youth to choose education over migration. The project team collected enrollment data weekly and shared it with ministry officials, allowing them to monitor the progress. The project aligns with the Government of Honduras's (GOH) 2010 Country Vision on non-violence and security, and the Fundamental Education Law, which highlights prevention and rehabilitation as a cross-cutting issue in the national curriculum. The project also supports the United States State Department's Central American Regional Security Initiative (CARSI) and the 2014 Alliance for Prosperity, a regional initiative aimed at reducing the incentives for migration. Asegurando has made significant progress in reducing school-based violence and increasing student enrollment. The project has established partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and government agencies to promote a safe and supportive learning environment. The project has also developed and implemented a range of interventions, including teacher training, student support services, and community engagement initiatives. The project's success is measured through a range of indicators, including student enrollment, attendance, and academic performance. The project also monitors the prevalence of school-based violence, including bullying, harassment, and physical violence. The project's findings and recommendations are shared with stakeholders, including the MOE, government agencies, and community organizations, to inform policy and programming decisions. The project's implementation is supported by a range of partners, including the MOE, local schools, community organizations, and government agencies. The project's budget is managed through a range of financial mechanisms, including grants, contracts, and partnerships. The project's financial performance is monitored through a range of indicators, including budget execution, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting. Overall, the School-Based Violence Prevention Activity in Honduras is a critical initiative that aims to address the root causes of school-based violence and promote a safe and supportive learning environment. The project's progress and achievements demonstrate the importance of investing in education and promoting a culture of peace and non-violence in Honduras.
