Abstract
(EDC) to improve teacher education in Pakistan. The project aims to enhance the quality of teacher education by developing and implementing new curricula, improving teacher training, and increasing access to education. The project has made significant progress in the past quarter, with a focus on capacity development and training of faculty and staff in teacher education institutions. Working closely with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), provincial and regional education departments, and partner colleges and universities, the project has effectively implemented activities related to the expansion and delivery of the two-year associate degree in education (ADE) and four-year bachelor of education honors (B.Ed. (Hons.)) programs. The project has also made progress in the area of strategic planning, with the organization of eight strategic planning workshops attended by 106 task force members from nine universities. The strategic plans of six universities are currently being copyedited for publication and dissemination with stakeholders. Additionally, the project has organized four consultative workshops on the Teacher Education Strategy 2018 (TES 2018) to assist with the finalization of strategic plans. The project has also provided technical assistance for infrastructure projects, including the construction of Faculty of Education buildings at six partner universities and the renovation of one existing partner university building. The design concepts have been presented to five universities, while the remaining two university concepts have been presented to USAID for input. Furthermore, the project has organized a Strategic Planning and Teacher Policy study tour to the United States in collaboration with Teachers College – Columbia University. Twenty-two participants, including 11 male and 11 female participants, participated in the study tour to observe and discuss experiences and techniques currently in use in the U.S. in the management of pre-service teacher education, with particular focus on strategic planning. The project has also made progress in the area of college improvement planning, with the development of college improvement plans for partner universities. The plans aim to improve the quality of teacher education by addressing issues such as curriculum development, teacher training, and infrastructure development. Overall, the USAID Teacher Education Project has made significant progress in the past quarter, with a focus on capacity development, strategic planning, and infrastructure development. The project continues to work closely with partner universities and provincial education departments to improve teacher education in Pakistan.
