The USAID Tuhifadhi Maliasili Activity is a five-year initiative aimed at conserving biodiversity and natural resources in Tanzania.

Abstract
The activity began on June 4, 2021, and is set to conclude on June 3, 2026. The project is being implemented by RTI International, with a prime contract number of 72062121C00001. The activity has subcontractors and grantees, including Trade Record Analysis of Flora and Fauna in Commerce (TRAFFIC), Southern Tanzania Elephant Program (STEP), and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), among others. The geographic coverage of the activity spans across several districts and regions in Tanzania, including Amani – Nilo Corridor, Kigosi Moyowosi – Burigi Chato Corridor, and others. The activity has major counterpart organizations, including the Government of Tanzania, Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, and the National Land Use Planning Commission. The activity's primary objective is to build institutional capacities of both public and private stakeholders, increase private sector engagement in biodiversity conservation and natural resources management, and improve the policy, regulatory, and enabling environment for biodiversity conservation and natural resources management. The activity also focuses on integration of cross-cutting issues, such as gender equality and women's empowerment, youth engagement, and sustainability. Implementation progress has been made in various areas, including institutional capacity building, private sector engagement, and policy and regulatory improvements. The activity has also made significant progress in integrating cross-cutting issues, with a focus on gender equality and women's empowerment, youth engagement, and sustainability. The activity has achieved several results to date, including the establishment of demonstration plots, training of farmers in sustainable agriculture practices, and improvement in household income among program participants. The activity has also made progress in addressing human-wildlife conflict, with the establishment of community-based conservation training centers and the implementation of environmental mitigation and monitoring plans. The activity's quarterly report for the third quarter of fiscal year 2023 highlights the progress made in various areas, including implementation progress, stakeholder participation and involvement, management and administrative issues, monitoring and evaluation, and special events for the next quarter. The report also provides a financial summary and highlights several success stories from the activity. The activity's prime implementing partner, RTI International, has been working closely with subcontractors and grantees to achieve the activity's objectives.
