Abstract
The project addresses key social and cultural norms and social and behavior change (SBC) system needs to achieve three results: improved ability of individuals to practice healthy behaviors, strengthened community support for healthy behaviors, and improved systems for coordination and implementation of SBCC interventions. Implementation of the project began in the first quarter of FY18, with major early activities including launching the project with stakeholders led by Government partners and securing the support of PORALG for the project implementation at the regional, district, and community level. Activities commenced in the regions, including carrying out the baseline household survey after securing local IRB approval. By the end of the quarter, sixty percent of the data had been collected. The accelerated support strategy was developed with partners, and all materials and revisions were agreed upon and received final GoT approval. Audience insights were conducted to inform the Test and Treat campaign, and regional stakeholders meetings were held in Shinyanga and Tabora to discuss project activities and progress. The project has established a strong partnership with the Government of Tanzania, with PORALG providing support for project implementation at the regional, district, and community level. The project has also secured local IRB approval for the baseline household survey, which is ongoing. The accelerated support strategy has been developed, and materials and revisions have been agreed upon and approved by the Government of Tanzania. The project's focus on social and behavior change communication (SBCC) aims to address key drivers of behaviors directly tied to health. The project's three results are closely aligned with the Government of Tanzania's health priorities, and the project is working closely with government partners to ensure that project activities are aligned with national health goals.
