Abstract
The affected areas in Côte d'Ivoire include the western regions of Guiglo, Duékoué, and Biankouma, as well as the central regions of Daloa and Issia. In Liberia, the affected areas include the western regions of Grand Bassa, River Cess, and Margibi, as well as the central regions of Montserrado and Bong. The humanitarian response in Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia is led by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), with support from various international organizations, including the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The response includes a range of activities, including food assistance, shelter and settlements, protection, and refugee assistance. As of April 15, 2011, there were 147,620 refugees in Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia, with the majority located in Côte d'Ivoire. The refugees are primarily from Côte d'Ivoire, with smaller numbers from Liberia and other countries in the region. The refugees are living in a range of settings, including refugee camps and host communities. The humanitarian response in Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia is also focused on supporting the affected populations, including internally displaced persons (IDPs). As of April 8, 2011, there were approximately 1 million IDPs in Côte d'Ivoire, with the majority located in the western and central regions of the country.
