Abstract
The assistance is coordinated by various United Nations agencies, including the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the World Food Programme (WFP). The affected areas in Côte d'Ivoire include the western region, where approximately 132,188 internally displaced persons (IDPs) are in need of assistance. In addition, 62,676 IDPs are located in the northern region, while 55,912 IDPs are in Abidjan. The affected areas in Liberia include Grand Bassa, Margibi, Montserrado, and River Cess counties, where approximately 2,971 refugees are in need of assistance. The USG humanitarian assistance to Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia focuses on several key areas, including agriculture and food security, camp coordination, economic recovery and market systems, health, humanitarian coordination and information management, livelihoods, logistics and relief commodities, nutrition, protection, refugee assistance, shelter and settlements, and water, sanitation, and hygiene. The assistance is provided through various channels, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) such as the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the World Vision. The refugee movement in the region is a significant concern, with refugees and IDPs in need of assistance in several countries, including Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Sierra Leone, and Togo. The total number of refugees in the region is approximately 149,453, with the majority located in Liberia. The USG humanitarian assistance is critical in addressing the needs of these refugees and IDPs, and in supporting the efforts of the international community to provide relief and assistance to those affected by the crisis. The geographic focus of the USG humanitarian assistance is primarily in the western region of Côte d'Ivoire and in Liberia, with a focus on the counties of Grand Bassa, Margibi, Montserrado, and River Cess. The assistance is also provided in other countries in the region, including Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Sierra Leone, and Togo. The timeframes for the assistance are not specified, but the USG has committed to providing humanitarian assistance to the affected populations in the region for an extended period.
