Abstract
The assistance is focused on addressing the needs of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in both countries. As of July 8, 2011, there were 149,453 refugees in Liberia, with the majority residing in the western part of the country. In Guinea, there were 2,971 refugees, while in Ghana, the number of refugees was significantly higher at 16,720. The refugee population in Ghana is comprised of individuals from various countries, including Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, and Guinea. In addition to refugees, there are also internally displaced persons (IDPs) in both Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia. As of June 15, 2011, there were 132,188 IDPs in western Côte d'Ivoire, while in northern Côte d'Ivoire, the number of IDPs was 62,676. In Liberia, the affected areas include Grand Bassa, Montserrado, and Margibi counties. The humanitarian assistance provided by the United States Government is being implemented through various agencies, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The assistance includes food, shelter, and other essential items, as well as support for agriculture and food security, camp coordination, and economic recovery and market systems. The humanitarian response is being coordinated through the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The refugee movement in the region is a complex issue, with refugees and IDPs moving across borders in search of safety and security. The refugee camps in the region are being managed by various agencies, including the UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The camps provide essential services, including food, shelter, and healthcare, to the refugees and IDPs. The humanitarian assistance provided by the United States Government is critical in supporting the refugee camps and providing essential services to the affected populations. The humanitarian response in the region is being implemented through a range of activities, including food assistance, shelter and settlements, water, sanitation, and hygiene, and protection. The response is being coordinated through the OCHA and the USAID, and is being implemented in partnership with various agencies, including the UNHCR, the WFP, and the ICRC. The humanitarian assistance provided by the United States Government is a critical component of the international response to the crisis in the region, and is helping to address the needs of refugees and IDPs in Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia.
