Grant is provided under the Technical Support/Child Survival project (9380500) to CARE to expand an existing child survival project in Sudan and initiate a new project in Guatemala.

Abstract
In Sudan, the community-based North Kordofan Integrated Health project, operating in Bara and En Nahud Districts in the western region of the country, will continue to promote immunizations, improved diarrheal disease and nutrition management, and maternal health. midwives, and village volunteers will all be trained in the promotion of community participation for the above interventions. In Guatemala, CARE will include a health and nutrition education component in the P.L. 480 Title II supplementary feeding program for mothers and children which it operates at 630 health centers located in 96 communities around the country. CARE community extensionists will work with local personnel and community health workers to increase program effectiveness in addressing malnutrition through nutrition education, oral rehydration therapy and diarrheal disease management, and growth monitoring and promotion.
