Abstract
The project connects technical solutions and proven commercial processes to ensure uninterrupted supplies of health commodities, ultimately saving lives and creating a healthier future for all. GHSC-PSM is implemented by Chemonics International, in collaboration with several partner organizations, including Arbola Inc., Axios International Inc., IDA Foundation, IBM, IntraHealth International, Kuehne + Nagel Inc., McKinsey & Company, Panagora Group, Population Services International, SGS Nederland B.V., and University Research Co., LLC. The project's goal is to strengthen national supply chain systems, provide global supply chain leadership, and purchase and deliver health commodities. The project focuses on four key health areas: HIV/AIDS, malaria, family planning and reproductive health, and maternal, newborn, and child health. GHSC-PSM works to improve supply chain performance, strengthen health institutions, and support data-informed health supply chain decision-making. The project also provides technical assistance to countries to help them develop and implement effective supply chain systems. In FY 2021, GHSC-PSM made significant progress in all four health areas. In HIV/AIDS, the project supported PEPFAR's HIV prevention agenda, improved on-time delivery and cost savings, and enhanced data visibility and commodity security. In malaria, GHSC-PSM implemented a proactive procurement strategy, promoted supply chain health, and reduced stockouts. In family planning and reproductive health, the project improved cost savings on contraceptives, addressed FP/RH priorities, and collaborated with global stakeholders. In maternal, newborn, and child health, GHSC-PSM provided international MNCH supply chain leadership and guidance, supported data-informed health supply chain decision-making, and improved adherence to globally recognized MNCH commodity quality standards. GHSC-PSM also made significant progress in global commodity procurement and logistics, systems-strengthening technical assistance, and global collaboration. The project implemented decentralized procurement, global standards, and impacts of COVID-19 on freight and logistics. GHSC-PSM also provided technical assistance in advanced analytics, environmental compliance, forecasting and supply planning, global standards and traceability, laboratory networks, leadership and governance, management information systems, warehousing and distribution, and workforce development. The project's performance was evaluated through key performance indicators (KPIs), which included timeliness of delivery, supply plans, capacity building, and collaboration with other USAID GHSC projects. GHSC-PSM also supported the global COVID-19 response, including procurement of COVID equipment for Italy, ventilator procurement, oxygen, technical assistance, and supporting the global COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Overall, GHSC-PSM made significant progress in FY 2021, improving supply chain performance, strengthening health institutions, and supporting data-informed health supply chain decision-making. The project's efforts will continue to contribute to the achievement of the USAID's global health goals and objectives.
