Abstract
The project connects technical solutions and proven commercial processes to ensure uninterrupted supplies of health commodities, ultimately saving lives and creating a healthier future for all. GHSC-PSM is implemented by Chemonics International, in collaboration with several partner organizations, including Arbola Inc., Axios International Inc., IDA Foundation, IBM, IntraHealth International, Kuehne + Nagel Inc., McKinsey & Company, Panagora Group, Population Services International, SGS Nederland B.V., and University Research Co., LLC. The project's goal is to strengthen national supply-chain systems, provide global supply-chain leadership, and purchase and deliver health commodities. The GHSC-PSM project focuses on four key health areas: HIV/AIDS, malaria, family planning and reproductive health, and maternal, newborn, and child health. In the HIV/AIDS area, the project supports PEPFAR's HIV prevention agenda, including testing, treatment, and viral-load testing. The project also provides HIV/AIDS supply chain data visibility and commodity security, as well as global collaboration and country support. In the malaria area, the project focuses on commodity sourcing, procurement, and delivery, including proactive procurement strategies for artemisinin-based combination therapies and stockout reduction initiatives. The project also prioritizes and transfers orders, adopts standards-based identification, barcoding, and data sharing standards, and provides LLIN distribution support. In the family planning and reproductive health area, the project addresses FP/RH priorities, including commodity sourcing and procurement, collaboration with global stakeholders, and country support. The project also provides technical assistance to strengthen national supply-chain systems and improve adherence to globally recognized quality standards. The GHSC-PSM project also focuses on global commodity procurement and logistics, including decentralized procurement, global standards, and impacts of COVID-19 on freight and logistics. The project provides technical assistance to strengthen health institutions, including advanced analytics, forecasting and supply planning, global standards and traceability, leadership and governance, management information systems, warehousing and distribution, and workforce development. The project's performance is measured through key performance indicators, including on-time delivery, on-time, in-full delivery, and supply plans. The project also collaborates with other USAID GHSC projects and provides strategic engagement, supply chain collaboration in global fora, and technical assistance to support COVID-19 response efforts. The GHSC-PSM project has made significant progress in its first quarter of fiscal year 2021, including the procurement of COVID-19 equipment for Italy, ventilator procurement, and oxygen supply. The project has also provided technical assistance to support health systems strengthening, emergency preparedness, and response efforts. Overall, the GHSC-PSM project is a critical initiative aimed at strengthening health supply chains and improving access to essential health commodities worldwide. The project's focus on global collaboration, technical assistance, and commodity procurement and logistics has the potential to save lives and create a healthier future for all.
