Abstract
The reserve spans an area of 1,267.7 hectares, as defined by the boundaries of the "Santana" property, which was registered as a natural reserve by the Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible through Resolution No. 0124 on November 7, 2014. The reserve's geographic location is situated at the following coordinates: N 1084099.363679 m, S 1077984.261622 m, E 2160550.080650 m, and O 2157565.303024 m. The reserve is characterized by a diverse range of ecosystems, including agrosystems, amortiguación zones, conservation areas, and zones of intensive use and infrastructure. The zonation of the reserve is divided into four main areas, with the following characteristics: agrosystems cover 42.59% of the reserve, with an area of 539.957 hectares, primarily used for extensive cattle grazing. The amortiguación zone covers 14.95% of the reserve, with an area of 189.5726 hectares, serving as a buffer zone around the conservation area. The conservation area, which accounts for 42.45% of the reserve, covers an area of 538.1729 hectares and is primarily composed of forested areas along the Cujinallas River and El Gavilán River. The zone of intensive use and infrastructure covers 0% of the reserve, with an area of 0 hectares. The reserve's plan of management outlines the permitted uses for each zone, and further information can be obtained by consulting the plan. The reserve's establishment is part of a broader effort to promote subnational protected area establishment in Colombia, with the goal of conserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable land use practices.
