Abstract
The area spans 1,293.7 hectares and is situated between 6°0' 45' and 6° 4' 30'' north latitude and 67° 26' 0'' and 67° 29' 45'' west longitude. The reserve is in the process of being registered with Parques Nacionales as a Reserva Natural de la Sociedad Civil "Ventanas". The area is zoned into four categories: agrosistemas, amortiguación, conservación, and uso intensivo e infraestructura. The conservación zone protects the flooded forests of the Orinoco River and the gallery forests of the San José Creek and other smaller creeks. A narrow strip of amortiguación zone separates the conservación zone from the agrosistemas and uso intensivo e infraestructura zones, where homes and livestock enclosures are located. The plan de manejo de la reserva provides further information on the permitted uses in each zone. The agrosistemas zone covers 49.24% of the area, with 636.995 hectares of land used for agricultural purposes. The amortiguación zone accounts for 10.55% of the area, with 136.428 hectares of land used for buffer purposes. The conservación zone covers 39% of the area, with 504.563 hectares of land protected for conservation purposes. The uso intensivo e infraestructura zone accounts for 1.21% of the area, with 15.7143 hectares of land used for intensive use and infrastructure purposes. The Reserva Natural de la Sociedad Civil La Ventana is a unique ecosystem that provides habitat for a variety of plant and animal species. The reserve's location in the Orinoco River basin makes it an important area for conservation efforts. The reserve's management plan, which includes zoning and permitted uses, is essential for maintaining the ecological integrity of the area and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the reserve.
