Abstract
The initiative is focused on the Dagua region, specifically the Vereda El Chilcal, Corregimiento el Limonar, Municipio de Dagua, Departamento del Valle del Cauca. The characterization of the biophysical aspects of the area was conducted through a preliminary bibliographic review of the site and surrounding areas. A field visit was also conducted by the Fundación GAIA team to observe the natural coverages, planted areas, and potential pressures on the environment. The team identified various ecosystems, including the Subandino and Subxerofitico forests. A review of secondary information was also conducted, which included documents from various sources such as the Corporación Autónoma Regional del Valle del Cauca, Fundación Trópico, and the Instituto de Investigación de Recursos Biológicos Alexander von Humboldt. These documents provided information on the flora and fauna of the area, as well as the potential pressures and threats to the environment. The characterization of the biophysical aspects of the area revealed the presence of various ecosystems, including the Subandino and Subxerofitico forests. The area is also home to a variety of flora and fauna, including medicinal and aromatic plants. The characterization also identified potential pressures and threats to the environment, including erosion, fire, mining, and contamination of water sources. The report highlights the importance of conservation efforts in the Dagua region, particularly in the context of the Sistema Departamental de Áreas Protegidas (SIDAP) in the Valle del Cauca. The report also emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach to conservation, including the involvement of local communities and the development of strategies for the sustainable use of natural resources. The report concludes by emphasizing the need for further research and analysis to inform conservation efforts in the Dagua region. It also highlights the importance of collaboration and coordination among various stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations, to achieve conservation goals. The characterization of the biophysical aspects of the area and the review of secondary information provided a comprehensive understanding of the ecosystems, flora, and fauna of the Dagua region. The report highlights the importance of conservation efforts in the region and emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach to conservation that involves local communities and the sustainable use of natural resources. The report also highlights the importance of the Sistema Departamental de Áreas Protegidas (SIDAP) in the Valle del Cauca, which aims to conserve and manage protected areas at the subnational level. The report emphasizes the need for further research and analysis to inform conservation efforts in the Dagua region and highlights the importance of collaboration and coordination among various stakeholders to achieve conservation goals.
