Abstract
The Conservacolombia initiative aims to support the establishment of protected areas through a stimulus package. The initiative is focused on the Cuenca del Río Grande, a region in the departments of Tolima and Quindío. The Conservacolombia initiative is a collaborative effort between the Fondo Acción Ambiental y la Niñez and the Fundación Gaia. The project, which began in 2012, aimed to develop a proposal for the declaration and management of a protected area in the Cuenca del Río Grande. The project was implemented over a period of several months, with a team of experts conducting fieldwork, analyzing data, and engaging with local communities. The project involved several key activities, including the selection and analysis of secondary information, the conduct of 13 workshops with local communities, and the collection of primary data through 12 fieldwork expeditions. The team also developed maps of the area, including a map of the territory's bio-physical environment and a map of zoning. The project's findings and recommendations were presented in a technical report, which included a proposal for the declaration and management of the protected area. The report also included a plan of action and a plan of business, which outlined the steps necessary to establish and manage the protected area. The Conservacolombia initiative is an important step towards the establishment of protected areas in Colombia. The project's findings and recommendations will inform the development of policies and strategies for the conservation of the Cuenca del Río Grande and will contribute to the country's efforts to protect its natural resources.
