Abstract
initiative aimed at creating 60 million new electricity connections and 30,000 MW of clean electric power in Sub-Saharan Africa. The program supports the expansion of off-grid renewable energy lending in Ghana, Rwanda, and Uganda. This assessment evaluates the effectiveness of expanding small-scale, off-grid renewable energy lending in these countries. The assessment engaged with financial institutions to assess the constraints to expanding bank lending for off-grid renewable energy. Capacity development was a key component of the program, with training and technical assistance provided to banks in Ghana, Rwanda, and Uganda. Transaction support was also provided to facilitate the closing of transactions. The program's next steps, key findings, and recommendations are outlined in the report. In Ghana, the program provided training to banks on off-grid renewable energy lending, with a focus on commercial and industrial clients. The results of the training indicated an increase in the number of transactions that achieved financial closure. In Rwanda, the program provided training to banks on off-grid renewable energy lending, with a focus on commercial and industrial clients. The results of the training indicated an increase in the number of transactions that achieved financial closure. In Uganda, the program provided training to banks on off-grid renewable energy lending, with a focus on commercial and industrial clients. The results of the training indicated an increase in the number of transactions that achieved financial closure. The program's key findings and recommendations are outlined in the report. The report notes that bank interest in additional training and technical assistance is high, and that transactions pending financial closure are a key area of focus. The report also notes that the program's lessons learned on the payment-for-results technical assistance are relevant to future initiatives. The program's impact on the expansion of off-grid renewable energy lending in Ghana, Rwanda, and Uganda is significant. The program's results indicate that the expansion of off-grid renewable energy lending is a viable option for increasing access to electricity in these countries. The program's lessons learned and recommendations provide a framework for future initiatives aimed at expanding off-grid renewable energy lending in Sub-Saharan Africa. The program's results are presented in a series of tables and figures, which provide a detailed overview of the program's impact. The tables and figures present data on the number of transactions that achieved financial closure, the number of clients served, and the amount of funding provided. The data presented in the tables and figures indicate that the program's impact on the expansion of off-grid renewable energy lending is significant. The program's success is attributed to the collaboration between the Power Africa Beyond the Grid Program, the USAID Economic Growth, Education, and Environment Bureau, and the Global Climate Change Office. The program's success is also attributed to the technical and managerial support provided by the USAID Economic Growth, Education, and Environment Bureau and the Global Climate Change Office. The program's impact on the expansion of off-grid renewable energy lending in Ghana, Rwanda, and Uganda is a significant step towards increasing access to electricity in these countries. The program's lessons learned and recommendations provide a framework for future initiatives aimed at expanding off-grid renewable energy lending in Sub-Saharan Africa.
