Abstract
The Program's goal is to promote sustainable land uses in these critical ecosystems, benefiting local populations through the preservation of ecosystem services and achieving social and economic progress for a sustainable and lasting peace. The Program's fiscal year 21 First Quarterly Report presents progress towards key objectives and activities from October 1 – December 31, 2020, in line with its approved FY21 annual work plan. The main achievements from Q1 FY21 include the completion of a comprehensive land use plan for the Orinoquía region, which will guide conservation efforts and sustainable land use practices. Additionally, the Program has made significant progress in establishing financial incentives for populations living in conservation corridors, linked to their commitment to conservation activities. In the Montes de María region, the Program has worked with local communities to establish a network of conservation corridors, which will help to protect priority species and ecosystems. The Program has also provided training and technical assistance to local communities on sustainable agriculture practices, which will help to reduce deforestation and promote biodiversity conservation. In the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta – Piedmont of Perijá region, the Program has made significant progress in establishing a system for monitoring and evaluating conservation efforts. This system will provide valuable data on the effectiveness of conservation efforts and inform future decision-making. The Program has also made progress in incorporating priority conservation areas into land use plans and their management policies to mitigate the main threats to biodiversity. In the Orinoquía region, the Program has worked with local communities to establish a system for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of conservation efforts. The Program's progress in Q1 FY21 has been significant, with achievements in all three objectives. The Program has made progress in conserving Colombian biodiversity, establishing financial incentives for populations living in conservation corridors, and incorporating priority conservation areas into land use plans and their management policies. The Program's impact during Q1 FY21 has been substantial, with a total of 15,000 hectares of land under conservation, a 25% increase from the previous quarter. The Program has also provided training and technical assistance to over 1,000 local community members on sustainable agriculture practices, which will help to reduce deforestation and promote biodiversity conservation. The Program's progress in Q1 FY21 has been made possible through the support of the Government of Colombia, local communities, and other stakeholders. The Program will continue to work towards its objectives in the coming quarters, building on the progress made in Q1 FY21. The Program's fiscal year 21 First Quarterly Report presents a comprehensive overview of the Program's progress towards its objectives and activities from October 1 – December 31, 2020. The Report provides valuable information on the Program's achievements, challenges, and lessons learned, which will inform future decision-making and program development.
