Abstract
Agency for International Development (USAID) cooperative agreement designed to strengthen quality maternal, newborn, and child health, voluntary family planning, and reproductive health (MNCH/FP/RH) service delivery in fragile settings. The project aims to advance global knowledge on strengthening MNCH/FP/RH service delivery and building resilience in fragile settings. It is part of USAID's MOMENTUM suite of awards, which fosters sustainability and ensures that investments in USAID partner countries are tailored to country contexts. The project works to mitigate the impacts of fragility on the population's health and contribute to countries' movement along the humanitarian-development nexus. In Mali, the project focuses on improving equitable access to and use of MNCH/FP/RH, nutrition, immunization, and household WASH services. This includes increasing preparedness of the public health workforce to provide quality essential services, increasing accountability of district and local governance structures, and promoting cross-sectoral collaboration to improve or prevent backsliding of health outcomes. Implementation progress is being made in various areas. Intermediate Result 1.1, which aims to increase preparedness of the public health workforce, has seen significant progress. Community health workers have been trained, and demonstration plots have been established to promote sustainable agriculture practices. Result 2, which focuses on increasing accountability of district and local governance structures, has also seen progress. Local technical capacity and leadership for resilience, adaptive learning, and use of evidence for health program management and decision-making have been increased. Citizen participation in and ownership of health intervention planning have also been promoted. Cross-sectoral collaboration has been strengthened through Intermediate Result 3.1, which aims to increase public-private sector collaboration for health. Collaboration across humanitarian and development actors for health has also been increased, as seen in the COVID-19 activities section. The project has coordinated with various stakeholders, including humanitarian actors, to improve COVID-19 vaccination data and provide technical assistance during the reporting period. Management updates indicate that security remains a concern, and staff recruitment is ongoing. The project has also provided short-term technical assistance during the reporting period and has planned activities for the next quarter. Overall, the project is making progress in its efforts to strengthen MNCH/FP/RH service delivery and build resilience in fragile settings in Mali.
