Abstract
The survey aimed to assess the performance of health services in the Lango sub-region, focusing on key health indicators such as HIV counselling and testing, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT), HIV knowledge and sexual behavior, sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis, malaria, reproductive health, child survival, orphans and other vulnerable children, nutrition, water and sanitation, gender-based violence, community groups, and COVID-19. The survey design and implementation involved selecting supervision areas (SAs), sampling interview villages, and training district survey teams. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires, and the survey response rates and data processing were monitored. The data analysis revealed several key findings, including a high percentage of individuals who know two or more benefits of HIV counselling and testing, and a significant proportion of mothers of children aged 0-11 months who were counselled and received an HIV test during their last pregnancy. The survey results also showed that a substantial percentage of individuals were tested for HIV and received their results, with a notable increase in the percentage of individuals who disclosed their HIV status to their spouses. However, there were also concerns regarding discriminatory attitudes towards people living with HIV, with a significant proportion of individuals reporting such attitudes. The survey also highlighted the need for improved knowledge and practices related to HIV transmission, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and reproductive health. The survey results were used to inform recommendations for improving health services in the Lango sub-region. Key challenges identified included inadequate knowledge and practices related to HIV transmission and prevention, as well as limited access to health services, particularly for vulnerable populations. Recommendations included strengthening HIV counselling and testing services, improving knowledge and practices related to HIV transmission and prevention, and increasing access to health services for vulnerable populations. The survey results also highlighted the importance of addressing gender-based violence, with a significant proportion of individuals reporting experiences of violence. The survey recommended strengthening community-based initiatives to address gender-based violence and promoting awareness and education on the issue. Additionally, the survey emphasized the need for improved water and sanitation facilities, particularly in rural areas, to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases. Overall, the Lango sub-region 2021 LQAS Survey provided valuable insights into the performance of health services in the region, highlighting areas of strength and weakness. The survey results will inform the development of targeted interventions to improve health outcomes in the Lango sub-region, with a focus on addressing the key challenges and recommendations identified.
