Abstract
Instructor Danford Mahwera, an assistant lecturer, taught the course. The course focused on garment manufacture, with a primary objective of equipping students with practical skills in designing and creating garments. The course began with a stakeholders' workshop held from 13th to 14th April 2012, where the author served as the master of ceremonies. The workshop was a success, with all set targets achieved. Following the workshop, the author remained in Kyela to teach at KCoST, focusing on revising topics for new students who had joined the college in February. Due to time constraints, the author was only able to teach two new topics within a nine-day period. The first topic, "Introduction to Garment Manufacture," involved teaching students how to draft a shirt pattern using flat pattern design. This practical-oriented topic combined theoretical instruction with hands-on activities, where students drafted patterns on special papers and then transferred them to fabric for cutting and alteration. The second topic, "Practicals," involved students cutting and fitting shirt patterns, making necessary alterations, and temporarily stitching the garments before taking them to machines for permanent stitching. Upon completion of the course, the author left KCoST on 25th April 2012, with some topics still to be covered and practicals remaining to be completed. During this time, the author was also assigned additional duties as the in-charge of academic and administrative matters at the college.
