Abstract
The software is built on a comprehensive set of advanced and scientific demand forecast methods, integrated resource mapping models, and power procurement optimization technology. The main purpose of the REPOSE software is to help DISCOMs forecast demand, establish resource plans, and optimize future procurement costs. The software provides utilities with hourly, weekly, and yearly visualizations of demand and resource adequacy over a 15-year horizon. It allows users to study various scenarios to optimize their power procurement plans with a generation mix from available resources, future contracts, and renewable energy maximization. The REPOSE software addresses the key challenges in resource planning, including increasing renewable energy in the grid, managing its constraints and uncertainties, optimizing resources with a clean/green energy option, and accounting for policies, compliance, electric vehicles, and other factors. The software uses comprehensive modeling, complex algorithms, and resource optimization techniques to generate optimal generation mix plans with available resources and future contracts. The REPOSE software has several integral elements, including demand forecasting, integrated resource mapping, and power procurement optimization. It uses advanced algorithms, such as CAGR, trend analysis, econometric, ARIMA, artificial neural network, partial end use, and mixed integer linear programming, to forecast long- and medium-term demand and factors affecting demand. The software also provides outputs on flexible generation requirements to address deficits through renewable energy. The REPOSE software has been tested on data from Assam and Jharkhand, and the accuracy level is found to be within 5% band. The tool provides flexibility to users to enter data either manually or through Excel. It also has the ability to optimize resource plans based on cost, higher RE uptake, lower emission, or any combination of the three. The REPOSE software is freely available on the USAID PACE-D 2.0 RE website, along with brochures and fact sheets on the software's inputs, methodology, and outputs. The software requires minimum hardware and software specifications for installation, and the user manual and frequently asked questions are available on the USAID PACE-D 2.0 RE website. The Partnership to Advance Clean Energy – Deployment (PACE-D 2.0 RE) program is developed by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) with India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to help national and state partners develop an enabling environment for faster, more cost-effective deployment of renewable energy.
