Abstract
Agency for International Development (USAID) permanently ceased its activities in Bolivia as of September 30, 2013. This decision was made in accordance with the government of President Evo Morales' decision to expel USAID from the country. All projects have been closed, and USAID is no longer administering or implementing any assistance programs in Bolivia. Financial activities have also been terminated. From 1961 to 1963, USAID worked in partnership with the people of Bolivia to build a better future. In its 52-year history with the Bolivian people, USAID has touched and changed millions of lives. Recent USAID programs in Bolivia focused on healthcare, particularly serving Bolivian mothers and children in rural or underserved areas. The agency also worked to combat diseases such as malaria and protect the environment, particularly in Lake Titicaca. USAID implemented assistance programs in cooperation with all the departments in Bolivia. Among the many accomplishments of USAID over the decades were the construction of bridges, roads, schools, and the El Alto airport. The agency also supported and promoted successful Bolivian products for export, such as coffee and quinoa. USAID worked closely with the government, local and provincial governments, the private sector, micro and small businesses, farmers, and others to support sustainable development for Bolivians. The National Development Plan of the Government of Bolivia guided USAID's work in the country. The agency's programs and successes in Bolivia are documented on the Embassy's website, including information on specific projects and achievements. The website provides a comprehensive overview of USAID's activities in Bolivia and serves as a resource for those interested in learning more about the agency's work in the country. USAID's departure from Bolivia marked the end of a long and successful partnership between the agency and the Bolivian people. Despite the closure of USAID's programs, the agency's legacy in Bolivia continues to have a lasting impact on the country's development and growth.
