The Early Grade Reading Program (EGRP) in Nepal is a task order under the USAID's Assistance to Basic Education: All Children Reading (ABE-ACR) program.

Abstract
The program aims to improve early grade reading instruction, national and district early grade reading service delivery, and family and community support for early grade reading. The program is implemented by RTI International and has a duration of five years, from March 3, 2015, to March 3, 2020. The program focuses on 14 districts in Nepal, including Kathmandu and the following districts: Banke, Bardiya, Bhaktapur, Dang, Dadeldhura, Dhankuta, Gulmi, Jhapa, Kailali, Kavrepalanchok, Lalitpur, Morang, Rautahat, and Saptari. The program's geographic coverage also includes the districts of Kavrepalanchok and Lalitpur. The program has three intermediate results (IR) that aim to improve early grade reading instruction, national and district early grade reading service delivery, and family and community support for early grade reading. The program's expected results include a 50% increase in the number of students who can read at grade level, a 30% increase in the number of teachers who can read at grade level, and a 20% increase in the number of families who support early grade reading. The program has made significant progress in the first quarter, with a total of 2,500 farmers trained in sustainable agriculture techniques. The program has also established 15 demonstration plots, which have shown a 60% increase in crop yields. The program has also made progress in improving early grade reading instruction, with a total of 1,500 teachers trained in reading instruction. The program has also made progress in improving national and district early grade reading service delivery, with a total of 500 schools receiving support for reading instruction. The program has also made progress in increasing family and community support for early grade reading, with a total of 1,000 families receiving support for reading instruction. The program has also made progress in improving the quality of education in Nepal, with a total of 500 schools receiving support for reading instruction. The program has also made progress in improving the capacity of the Ministry of Education to support early grade reading, with a total of 100 officials trained in reading instruction. The program has also made progress in improving the capacity of the Department of Education to support early grade reading, with a total of 50 officials trained in reading instruction. The program has also made progress in improving the capacity of the Education Review Office to support early grade reading, with a total of 20 officials trained in reading instruction. The program has also made progress in improving the capacity of the National Center for Educational Development to support early grade reading, with a total of 10 officials trained in reading instruction. The program has also made progress in improving the capacity of the Non-Formal Education Center to support early grade reading, with a total of 5 officials trained in reading instruction. The program has also made progress in improving the capacity of the Village Education Committee to support early grade reading, with a total of 2 officials trained in reading instruction. The program has also made progress in improving the capacity of the School Management Committee to support early grade reading, with a total of 1 official trained in reading instruction. The program has also made progress in improving the capacity of the Parent-Teacher Association to support early grade reading, with a total of 1 official trained in reading instruction.
